That European Commissionthe executive branch of the EU, on Friday unveiled its latest package of sanctions against Moscow for invading Ukraine.

The sanctions include a ban on Russian gold imports and legislative changes to prevent current measures from hampering food supplies.

“Today’s package will introduce a new import ban on Russian gold while strengthening our export controls on dual-use and advanced technologies,” the commission said in a statement.

“This will strengthen the harmonization of EU sanctions with ours G7 Partner. It will also tighten reporting requirements to tighten the freeze on EU assets,” it said.

Unofficially, the officials speak of a “sixth half” package of sanctions Reutersbecause of its limited scope compared to six previous rounds of sanctions imposed on Russia.

The sanction will only come into effect once EU governments have agreed on the measures. The ambassadors are scheduled to meet on Monday and then on Wednesday for possible approval.

The publication noted that the EU would also tighten existing sanctions against Russia, with new restrictions on Russian imports of goods that could be used for military purposes, including chemicals and machinery.
