It’s something I had to learn about life as an amputee. After my residual limb had healed, I got my first prosthesis. There was also a rubber insert. There were no instructions on how to keep the liner clean, so I did my best with soap and water, but it didn’t reduce the number of bacteria and fungi present. Even when the prosthetist saw a fungal infection growing on my residual limb, he told me to put anti-fungal cream on it, without mentioning that the liner could be the source of the infection. I would still use soap and water if I hadn’t seen an article about the liner wand.
