Ukraine said it discovered a mass grave containing 440 bodies in the northeastern city of Izium days after the recapture Wladimir Putin‘s powers.
What happened: “Mass graves are being discovered in Izyum… The current largest burial ground has 440 unmarked graves,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense tweeted.

This comes after the Ukrainian military’s counter-offensive last week forced thousands of Russian forces to retreat from the captured region. The armed forces left behind large amounts of ammunition and equipment, which they used in their war against Ukraine.

“Some died from artillery fire…some died from air raids” Serhiy Bolvinovthe chief investigator of the police for the Kharkiv region, told Sky News.
Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly denied that it is targeting civilians in its war against Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyysaid in a video address late Thursday: “We want the world to know what is really happening and what the Russian occupation has led to. Bucha, Mariupol, now, alas, Izyum … Russia leaves death everywhere. And it must be held accountable for it. The world really needs to hold Russia accountable for this war.”
