In the Twitter thread, Snowden shared a Breaking Bad meme with the character Jesse Pinkman. The meme read, “He can’t get away with this.”
Why it matters: Snowden shared a Politico report on Sunday, who, citing people familiar with the matter, said the White House is likely to release an executive order on transatlantic data transfers next week.
Once the order is published, it will lead to a ratification process by the European Commission According to reports, this will take up to six months.
Negotiations for the deal began in 2020 after judges in the EU unraveled the so-called Privacy Shield, fearing it could not adequately protect Europeans from US surveillance, Politico reported.
Details on the content of the forthcoming order are not available, but people involved in the talks said that according to the report, both European and American citizens will be granted new legal protections regarding data use by US security agencies.
Snowden, who fled prosecution after revealing NSA information in 2013, was handed over Russian citizenship last week.
