General Motors Corporation GM has decided to temporarily stop advertising Twitter, Inc TWTR eponymous platform after his acquisition through Elon Musk.
The decision was made to evaluate the new direction the social media platform is taking under new leadership.
“We are working with Twitter to understand the platform’s direction under its new ownership,” the Detroit-based legacy automaker said in an emailed statement.
“As is customary with any significant media platform change, we have temporarily suspended our paid advertising. Our customer care interactions on Twitter continue,” the statement added.
A CNBC report also noted that GM was one of the first automakers to spend billions of dollars on advertising to break into the electric vehicle market.
Ford Motor Company f didn’t advertise on Twitter prior to Musk’s interest in the platform, but the automaker is currently using it to connect with its customers, the report added.
Musk’s flagship, by the way Tesla, Inc. TSLA spends no money on advertising and sells its cars a direct sales model.
