Elon Musk‘s Twitter introduced a view count feature that allows anyone to see how many people have seen a tweet.

What happened: Twitter announced on Thursday that “views” on tweets are now visible iOS and Android. The function is also active on the Twitter web interface.

Users who don’t see this feature enabled in their app yet simply need to update it to the latest version.

According to Musk, tweets are more likely to be read than “liked”. The new feature “shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem,” he said, citing user engagement statistics.

Why it matters: Musk announced the feature on Dec. 1, implying that he intends to show view counts for all tweets, just like they show for videos.

2021, Instagram and Facebook started allowing users to hide the number of likes on their posts. Similar, youtube also started hiding public dislike counts – only creators can see how many people clicked the thumbs down button on their posts.
