Elon Muskis highly ambitious and controversial Twitter Blue subscription model is not attracting as many users as it would have liked, according to a software developer’s report.
What happened: Travis Browna software developer in Berlin, explained that the number of subscribers to Twitter Blue “didn’t even double”. a month after the relaunch.
Brown was referring to Twitter Blue’s initial launch on November 5th. The website stopped accepting more users on November 11th. The subscription plan then attracted about 140,000 users, while the second inning has “between 275,000 and 325,000 total subscribers.”
Why it matters: The Twitter Blue Revamp model – which allows users to access additional features, including the coveted blue tick, by paying $8 a month – is a Part of Musk’s Twitter 2.0.
Musk’s decision to monetize the blue tick received massive backlash from Internet users and celebrities such as author StephenKing. This also increased the number of verified but fake accounts the imitation leading brands and personalities, causing havoc on the microblogging site.
Since Musk took over Twitter in October 2022the company has been surrounded by controversial decisions, chaotic updates, and tons of negative feedback.
In December, Musk stated that before the acquisition Twitter has been scammed “$60 million a year in SMS texting.”
