Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded heavy weapons and modern fighter jets for defense Wladimir Putin‘s renewed offensive in Ukraine.
What happened: During a visit to Paris on Wednesday, Zelenskyj said that France and Germany had the Opportunity to be game changer in Russia-Ukraine warreported Reuters.
“We have very little time. I am now talking about the weapons needed for peace and to stop the war started by Russia,” Zelenskyy said.
“France and Germany have the potential to change the game and that’s how I see our talks today. The sooner we get long-range heavy weapons and our pilots get modern planes… the sooner this Russian aggression will end,” he added.
Zelenskyj was in Paris for dinner with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz after talks with the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak earlier in the day in London. Ukraine’s president called on his western allies to give Kyiv “wings of freedom” by sending fighter jets to turn the tide against Putin.
Zelenskyy will be in Brussels on Thursday to attend a summit of European leaders.
Macron reiterated that Moscow cannot be allowed to win the war but said operational matters would be discussed over dinner. He added that France, how Germany would continue to provide military support to Ukraine, which it needs to secure its future.
