Last week, apple inc AAPL was in the news about a report about a secret team working at the company while adding a non-invasive glucose monitoring feature to his smart watch.

Bloomberg columnist Gurman now reports that the secret team could develop a variety of other technological innovations.

What happened: The secretive “Exploratory Design Group” or XDG at Apple is working on several projects currently underway, alongside non-invasive glucose monitoring technology, Gurman said in his weekly “Power On” newsletter.

XDG, according to Gurman, is similar to Alphabet, Inc GOOD Google X “Moonshot Factory” which was the brains behind it waymo self-driving car technology, Google Glass and Loon internet speech bubbles.

Apple’s XDG team has already made breakthroughs that have been used in the company’s products, Gurman said. He pointed out that the team is currently working on next-generation display technology, artificial intelligence and features for AR/VR headsets that help people with eye diseases. Work on next-generation low-power processor technologies and batteries for smartphones also continues, he added.

Follow the origin and development of XDG: Founded a few years ago, the XDG team was initially led by bill athas, who was praised by both the co-founder as the brightest engineer at Apple Steve Jobs as well as CEO timcook, said Gurman. Athas died unexpectedly late last year, he noted.

Apple’s senior vice president Johny Srouji currently leads the XDG team, which is part of Cupertino’s Hardware Technologies Group, the columnist said. It works in a building called “Tantau 9” just outside the spaceship-shaped Apple Park ring, he said.
