alphabet inc GOOD Google Google announced on Tuesday open access to “Bard,” his latest attempt to compete with OpenAI‘s popular chatbot, ChatGPT.
Bard is a generative artificial intelligence experiment that lets users collaborate an AI system. Built on a smaller, streamlined version of Google’s large language model, LaMDA, the chatbot is designed to help users increase their productivity, accelerate their ideas, and spark their curiosity.
Unlike ChatGPT, which has gained popularity by replacing search engines – namely Google – Google is positioning Bard as a complement to its search engine.
Google invites users to try the chatbot and provide feedback to improve its capabilities. The chatbot is based on Google’s understanding of quality information, but the company acknowledges that large language models are not without flaws.
Bard tends to make up facts and can spread prejudice and stereotypes found in the internet data it was trained on, Google called. Although the company has guardrails in place to limit interactions, the tool is still likely to provide false or misleading information.
Bard’s launch is a clear attempt by Google to compete with ChatGPT and other generative AI products such as Google Those of Microsoft Corporation MSFT new Bing chatbot.
But Bard may still have a long way to go to match the skill of his rivals. Google warns users to be aware of the limitations of the technology.
Still, Bard’s launch shows that the race to integrate Generative AI into products is on and companies are striving to lead the field.
