Russia fires torpedo missiles at alleged “enemy” warship

This was announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense Wladimir Putin‘s army destroyed a replica enemy submarine as part of naval exercises Japanese sea.

What happened: In the midst of the ongoing war in UkraineThe ministry said two diesel-electric submarines from Russia’s Pacific Fleet conducted a tactical anti-submarine exercise to search for and destroy a mock “enemy” submarine.

“The submarine, which played the role of a pseudo-enemy during the exercise, conducted a torpedo evasion maneuver during the exercise,” he added.

Why it matters: Development almost came a month after Russia conducted a similar exercise where two boats launched a simulated missile attack on an enemy warship about 100 kilometers away. It then tested two Moskit cruise missiles, which successfully hit the target.

According to TASS, Russia’s Northern Fleet will receive six submarines in the Arctic, all of which will be equipped with the ability to launch Kalibr-PL cruise missiles. These submarines are 74 meters long and can travel up to 7,500 miles.
