Ron DeSantis is slowly on the way run for the presidency and is ready to enter the presidential race as early as mid-May.
What happened: GOP sources close to DeSantis told NBC News that the Florida governor plans to set up an official fact-finding committee — a small team to gauge support within the party for his possible run — in the coming months.

According to sources, his chief political adviser Genus PeckHe’ll probably be his campaign manager.
This comes after DeSantis opened up about his presidential bid on a world tour earlier this month. Governor said he believes his ranking in polls against the former president donald trump will change after formally announcing his bid for the 2024 US Presidential Election.
Why it matters: DeSantis supporters have encouraged him to make his run official as early as May 11 to combat the growing notion that the The former US President is the clear favorite for the 2024 GOP nomination.
The delay in the announcement puts DeSantis well behind other Republican candidates who are also targeting a presidential nomination in 2024. Potential GOP nominee candidates, including Trump, Nikki HaleyAnd Tim Scottare already making progress in rallying support in states that hold early primary elections.
