Former President donald trump attacked again on Sunday Ron DeSantis, his potential Republican competitor in the presidential race.
What happened: Trump took to Truth Social to insist that Florida’s governor poses no threat to him as a potential candidate the 2024 US presidential election.
Trump said he “didn’t care” if DeSantis decided to run against him for the GOP nomination. “…the problem is the law he’s about to sign that will allow him to run for governor without standing for governor, which completely weakens the integrity of the Florida election,” Trump wrote.

“Instead of getting tough and doing what people want (same day voting, voter ID, proof of citizenship, paper ballots, hand counting, etc.) this bill breaks everything, and is a total mess. It’s simple, all we want is a free and fair election and an honest count,” he added.

Why it matters: Last week, the Florida House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow current Gov. Ron DeSantis to retain his position if he decides to run for president in 2024. Under current Florida election law, legislators who wish to run for office must resign from their current post upon becoming an official candidate. However, the proposed law, if passed, would exempt candidates running for the positions of President or Vice President from this requirement.
DeSantis hasn’t officially announced if he’s considering running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, but he does widely speculated to enter the race by mid-May.
He also argued that his ranking in polls against the former president will change after officially announcing his offer.
