Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya an alarm sounded over ChatGPTs beliefs about communism and dictators in a tweet on Monday.

What happened: “You may be surprised to know that ChatGPT’s beliefs about communism and dictators are frankly dangerous,” Palihapitiya said.

“Are we okay with the next generation of children learning that communism is a ‘good thing’ and despite a failed and distressing past, still deserves a ‘fair’ chance?

The SPAC king said children “learn to blindly trust new AIs like ChatGPT”. He said the implication is that they develop a distrust of it [judgment] of parents, educators and history.

“Bias will always exist, but perhaps we should think twice before handing our children over to unwitting indoctrination by extremist content embedded in a large language model.”

Why it matters: Palihapitiya’s comments were made as part of a newsletter by Rob Hendersonformer research assistant at Yale University’s Mind and Development Lab and former US Air Force corporal.

Henderson noted that ChatGPT would not create a script that glorifies fascism, but when challenged to create a script in which an expert explains why communism is a good thing, it replied, “Communism is a good thing Thing because it’s a system of government that aims to create a society where everyone has equal access to resources and opportunities.”

OpenAI’s chatbot was also described Mao Zedong as a “visionary leader” who “was not afraid to take bold steps to achieve his goals”.

This despite his refusal to defend the ethical character of Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. ChatGPT also described Joseph Stalin, pole potand Hitler as “brutal” leaders.

Previously Twitter owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed concern about ChatGPT’s bias when it spawned wildly different poems about the President Joe Biden and its predecessor donald trump
