Apple Inc.s AAPL very first App Store Transparency Report shines a light on fascinating statistics including millions of submissions, rejections, government takedown requests, and terminated developer accounts.

What happened: On Friday, Apple released its first App Store Transparency Report, providing insights into the app review process, removals, and terminations of developer accounts.

According to the report, there were a whopping 1,783,232 apps on the App Store in 2022. Notably, the average weekly number of customer accounts browsing the App Store reached a staggering 373,211,396, indicating significant user interest in exploring the App Marketplace.

Last year, the company reviewed 6,109,913 app submissions, rejected 1,679,694, and removed 186,195 apps from the App Store. Apple also highlighted the number of apps removed by specific genres, with games and utilities leading the way and those removed due to government takedown requests – mainland China and India topped the list.

According to the report, Apple has a total of 36,974,015 registered developers. However, the tech giant has terminated 428,487 developer accounts for unknown reasons.

Why it matters: Earlier this week Apple shared information about its proactive measures against fraudulent transactions. The company announced that the App Store had thwarted potential fraudulent transactions to exceed $2 billion in 2022.

These latest reports come at a time when Apple is under pressure to allow third-party app stores on iPhones and iPads. The development is apparently due to this EU Law on Digital Marketswhich mandates that tech companies enable alternative app stores on their platform by 2024.
