Jon TafferEntrepreneur and Star of Paramount Globals PARA Bar Rescue has helped save hundreds of failing businesses. One night in a hotel room while looking back at them all, an ugly subject became clear to him.

What happened: Taffer narrated to a packed audience at Business, Technology and Pop Culture Great conference VeeCon that when he analyzed the reasons why companies fail, he found that everyone has an excuse. Not one of the people he tried to help ever blamed themselves. Excuses are the common denominator of failure, he said.

Tafffer emphasized: “[excuses] They paralyze us, they allow us to accept failure.”

Most people tend to keep procrastinating, Taffer said. They don’t take control of their own lives and make excuses for why that is, he added. “Everyone in this room has done it before,” he said.

“When it comes to entrepreneurship, you just have to get started,” he told the crowd, adding that on “Bar Rescue,” he turns businesses in four days with no scripts, no actors, and no preparation.

“In four days I assess the market, look at my demographics, look at my competitor report, come up with a concept, brand, design, menu, drink menu, recipes. Then I have 36 hours to build it and about four hours of training to finish it,” Taffer said.

“This is all happening in four days, so I have a question for you guys: Why is this all taking you guys so freaking long?” he asked.

“Time is money, so embrace it,” he said.
