E. Jean Carrollwho was awarded $5 million in a rape and defamation lawsuit opposed by a Manhattan jury donald trumpsaid she was contacted by numerous people for advice on how to bring their own alleged perpetrators to justice.
What happened: Carroll revealed that she was inundated with messages from “hundreds” of people asking for advice on pursuing her goals take legal action against their alleged perpetrators, reported Business Insider.
“They think, ‘Well, if the former President of the United States can be held responsible for sexual abuse, then maybe my stepfather, maybe my old boss, maybe my ex-boyfriend, maybe the man who lived down the street – maybe “I hold them responsible for ruining my life,” Carroll told Insider during an interview.
Trump was found liable by a Manhattan jury earlier this month in a civil assault and defamation lawsuit filed against him by Carroll.
According to Carroll, both men and women have reached out to her for advice through her Ask E. Jean column.
Carroll gave us an example of a recent letter she received “from a woman who was repeatedly raped by her stepfather in the sixth grade.”
“She wants to know what to do about her filing a lawsuit,” Carroll told Insider.
Why it matters: Despite being blamed for the sexual abuse of Carroll in a department store dressing room in the 1990s, Trump has repeatedly done so dismissed the case as false.
Trump even denied any knowledge of Carroll, claiming he didn’t know her at all. He reportedly told CNN, “I don’t know this woman. I never met her. I have no idea who she is.”
