billionaire Elon Musk has frequently spoken about his concerns about the underpopulation. He has mentioned that people should focus on having more babies to solve the problem low birth rates and population collapse.
Earlier this year, Musk shared how the COVID-19 pandemic has unfolded led to a lower birth rate instead of the expected “baby boom” as people are forced to stay indoors.
Now, a birthing facility could answer Musk’s concerns about the world’s low birth rates. The world’s first artificial womb facility, EctoLife, promises to produce custom-made babies.
Film producer and biotechnologist Hashem Al-Ghaili created the technology that would allow women who have had their wombs removed to reproduce while reducing preterm birth and combating population decline, reports the daily mail.
The facility, which will be powered by renewable energy, will house 75 laboratories, each equipped with up to 400 growth capsules or artificial wombs, the media outlet reports.
The capsules are designed to replicate real-life conditions in the womb and contain sensors that monitor the baby’s vital signs such as heartbeat, temperature and oxygen saturation.
EctoLife aims to raise up to 30,000 babies per year in its birth capsules.

According to Al-Ghaili, the concept is based on “50 years of groundbreaking scientific research being conducted by researchers worldwide” and such birth capsules could be widely available in “just decades”, the Daily Mail reports.
Al-Ghaili believes artificial womb facilities could become a reality in 10 years if ethical restrictions are lifted, reports the mirror.
According to the report, an “elite package” would allow people “to genetically manipulate the embryo before it is implanted in the artificial womb.”
Also, parents can choose their baby’s intelligence level, height, hair, eye color, body type, etc.
