Amazon’s AWS Vs. Microsoft Azure vs. Google Cloud: How the Cloud Race…

Big tech gains mostly surprised to the downside, prompting market analysts to comment Market leadership is moving away from techs. Even though Alphabet, Inc Google WELL core business of search and YouTube experienced weaknesses, The cloud business has been touted as a bright spot.

Here’s a look at how each of the big three US providers’ lucrative cloud businesses fared in the third quarter:

AWS: Amazon, Inc AMZN The cloud business, dubbed Amazon Web Service, or AWS, had revenue of $20.54 billion in the quarter. This represented an increase of 27.4% year over year and an increase of 4.1% quarter over quarter.

The segment contributed $5.4 billion to Amazon’s operating income and helped offset operating losses incurred by the company’s core e-commerce business.

AWS accounted for 16.2% of Amazon’s total revenue.

“Our AWS teams continue to work tirelessly to expand that breadth and depth, including recent rollouts of new EC2 machine learning training instances to AWS IoT fleets,” CFO Brian Olsawsky said on the third-quarter earnings conference call.

Google cloud: Alphabet’s Google Cloud brought the company $6.87 billion in revenue, up 37.6% year over year and 9.4% sequentially. However, the division generated an operating loss of $699 million.

Alphabet only gets about 10% of its revenue from its cloud business.

chairman Sundar Pichai said on the conference call that cloud is a key priority for the company, adding that long-term trends driving cloud adoption continue to play an even stronger role in uncertain times.

Microsoft Azure: software giant microsoft corp MSFT said its cloud revenue grew 24% year over year to $25.7 billion. Adjusted for currency effects, growth was steeper at 31%.

Revenue from its Intelligent Cloud business grew 20% to $20.3 billion, driven by 35% revenue growth at Azure and other cloud services. Azure is Microsoft’s public cloud computing platform.
