Apple Mac users finally get Microsoft Outlook for free – Microsoft…

What happened: A “redesigned” Microsoft Outlook is now available for free on all Macbook devices.

The Redmond-based tech giant touted the improved features and user experience in a statement, saying it was “rebuilding the app for Apple laptops’ operating system “from the ground up” to be “faster” and “more reliable.”

Along with a better user interface, Microsoft has touted the ability to view agendas with a widget, set reminders, show upcoming calendar events in the menu bar, and offer new “hands-off features” as improvements in the new app.

The company said there will be a new “Outlook Profiles” feature that would allow users to better connect their email accounts to Apple’s Focus experience.

Why it matters: The Outlook app was formerly available as part of Microsoft 365 or Office bundle subscriptions for Mac users.

Providing the software free of charge paves the way for Microsoft to work with other third-party services such as Mozilla Thunderbird And spark.

Apple also has a native email client – Apple Mail – available for Macs alongside iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch.

Overall, according to Litmus data, Outlook is the third most popular email client in the world with a 4.45% market share. Apple customers tied for first place with a 58.7% market share alphabet inc‘S Google GOOD Gmail is the second largest email client with a 28% market share.

It’s worth noting that Gmail isn’t available on the macOS App Store.
