- Apple has updated its website after notifying employees of the permanent closure of Northlake Mall in Mecklenburg County.

- The shootings at the mall contributed to the decision, sources said.
- Apple told employees it would transfer employees at the Northlake Mall location to the nearby SouthPark location in Charlotte or work at the company’s online store.
- Apple was also preparing to inaugurate a new location in Charlotte in 2024 to replace the Northlake Mall store before the recent shootings.
- “We will be closing Apple Northlake on March 2 in preparation for a new store we plan to open in the Charlotte area early next year,” the company said.
- Shots were reportedly fired outside one Macy’s Inc M at Northlake Mall on Tuesday, while another shooting took place in early February. More shootings were reported in December and 2021.
- Apple, which operates around 270 retail locations across the US, rarely closes stores.
