Tesla Inc TSLA chairman Elon Musk took to Twitter on August 25th to reply to a screenshot of a blog post posted by Whole Mars Catalog (@WholeMarsBlog). The Dawn Project Website written by the CEO and founder of the security group Dan O’Dowd.
“Bat s**t crazy,” Musk answered Use emoji.
Musk’s response was the final blow in an ongoing dispute between Musk and Tesla with the safety advocacy group. This dispute appears to have started on August 9th when The Dawn Project released a national TV campaign shows a white Tesla EV running full self-driving software (FSD) driving several times over a child-sized mannequin in the middle of the road.
The backdrop: In response to the Dawn Projects blog post, Tesla sent the group a cease and desist letter on Aug. 11 Letterand demanded, among other things, that the videos and other “defamatory information” be removed.
“To be clear, FSD Beta incorporates safety by design and recognizes pedestrians, including children, and when deployed correctly, the system will respond to prevent or mitigate a collision,” explained the letter, which was signed by Dinna EskinSenior Director and Deputy General Counsel of Tesla.
O’Dowd’s group has shown no signs of deterrence. August 15, O’Dowd went to twitter poking the bear by posting another version of the video on Musk’s personal account with the caption: “New video of master con artist Musk’s Full Self-Driving @Tesla recklessly mowing down a child’s doll wearing a safety vest on a real school zebra crossing.” No skittles. room to dodge. Video of pedals. Everything is real except the kid because you know what would happen to a real kid!”
