Bechtel-led coalition in support of Egypt’s decarbonization strategy

CAIRONov. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Egyptian LNG has awarded a feasibility study contract to the Bechtel-led Coalition for Decarbonization, which includes Enppi, Petrojet, Baker Hughes, GE Digital, HSBC and NBE. The study will implement a zero flaring system at the Egyptian LNG Export Terminal (ELNG) in Idku, east of Alexandria. HE Tarek El MollaEgyptian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, hosted the signing ceremony during the Decarbonization Day events in Cop 27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

The feasibility study will evaluate options for full routine flaring through modifications to the existing flare and compression systems at the ELNG facility, thereby reducing methane emissions from this strategic regional facility. The project fully supports the Methane Global Pledge signed by HE Abdel Fattah Al-SisiPresident of Egyptin June 2022. LNG will play a key role in providing reliable, responsible and sustainable energy Europe according to the trilateral agreement signed between Egyptthe European Union and Israel earlier this year.

The project is part of a broader program between the coalition and Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources aimed at decarbonising and upgrading existing oil and gas assets across the country Egypt climate protection strategy. The Coalition for Decarbonization was formed Earlier this year between Bechtel, Enppi, Petrojet, Baker Hughes, GE Digital, HSBC and National Bank of Egyptunder the auspices of SE Minister Tarek El Molla.
