Microsoft MSFT co-founder Bill Gates is a globally influential figure, particularly for his philanthropic work. The tech entrepreneur announced this on Twitter a leader he admired.
Coinciding with the former South African President Nelson Mandela On his birthday, Gates tweeted that his “legacy lives on as a reminder that it is possible to overcome great challenges.” The billionaire said he admires Mandela for his courage in fighting apartheid.

Gates added that he personally met the South African leader through the fight against HIV/AIDS. He also shared a photo showing Mandela, his father and former president Jimmy Carter holding infants infected with HIV.
Gates said the photo was intended to allay fears and stigma surrounding touching people with HIV. He called the photo his favorite photo.
“Mr Mandela exemplified how we can fight for progress, break down stigma and spread hope. He has played a critical role in the progress we have made against HIV/AIDS to date,” Gates said. “I will never forget the example he set.”
