Breitling Ambassador Caxsandra Tan on women’s empowerment

For many women, makeup is a daily job, not only can beautify them, but also an act of enhancing personal ability. Agreeing with this view is Breitling ambassador and founder of cosmetics company byCaxs Caxsandra Tan.The self-made entrepreneur and athlete “never cared about how people perceive [her] Over the years” and determined to spread this information to her customers.

Despite managing in many ways-building her business and her reputation in the sports world-she still has her own self-confidence brand. This relentless pursuit of excellence resonates closely with the pursuit of Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Breitling. In the next interview, she shared more about her life experience and how she got through the difficulties and become who she is today.

Tell me about byCaxs. Why do you want to leave a comfortable full-time job and start your own business?

When I first started byCaxs, everyone was fascinated by the appearance of K-beauty. At that time, K-beauty was more about “without makeup”, how to look more natural, how to have glowing skin-but I never participated in it. I still like eyeliner with wings, smoky eyes, plump lips-I know it is very niche, but I know it exists. And I know there are other girls like me who would like bolder and louder looks.

When I started using Caxs, it did have a goal: I wanted everyone to try a bold look without feeling ashamed, ashamed or uncomfortable. Because this is about our culture-women are shy to show our true identity; we are afraid of being judged.

So we explored the other side of women to make them feel more comfortable on their skin. Although my products can indeed improve the appearance-eyes, eyelashes, etc.-I actually want women to be more confident in the look they want. If they want to look bolder, they should feel free to do so instead of being shy about it.

Women are usually judged quite harshly because of their appearance. Have you experienced anything like this in your life?

For me, I would walk into the office when everyone was working from home, wearing high heels and heavy makeup. No one will see me, and I won’t even take a selfie. But it makes me feel better. A few days I will participate in activities without makeup at all. I really think that, in the final analysis, it has to do with how you feel and how you want to present yourself.

This is also the logic behind byCaxs: it really is not doing this for other people. It just makes you feel your best. When my customers told me how they tried our products and it changed their lives, I felt very happy. This sounds superficial-like how does it change a person’s life? -But I think it empowers them to some extent. For example: “Hey, I can actually use blue lenses, and I have enough confidence to wear them.”

After all, this is what you want. As long as you feel good, then I don’t think it matters what others think of you.

You have spent many years in public view. How do you deal with the pressure that comes with it?

On social media, everyone has a say in your life, your work, or your dress. They think they have the right to do so. I think if you want to put yourself there, there will definitely be people who feel differently from you. So I do think it’s important to understand yourself—especially as a woman—to understand your position and beliefs so that when people talk, it won’t bother you.

Over the years, I have never bothered about how people perceive me. I know my own way is not very traditional. But I never really thought about changing, simpler, or more modest dressing. It never bothered me. I never felt the need to be a different person—change the way I make up or my hair. I know who I am. As a woman, I know my values ​​and my position.

Do you consider yourself introverted or extroverted?

My friend is my friend since I was 10 years old. I am an introvert, but when byCaxs opened its first physical store last year, it forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I have to talk directly with consumers, and I run this store myself. I am usually very conservative, but this really has to change. But it also means that during my break time, I will really try to shut down.

Looking back on how far you and your brand have come, do you feel that you are “successful”?

Projects like this always remind me of how I started, and I do think that I and my entire team worked very hard to reach the current level. But this is never enough. I think there is a lot of potential. I think this is what makes every day more exciting, because I know there is still a lot to do and there is still a lot we can do. Although I know there is great potential, I am very proud of our coming here and where we are now.

I think, no matter at any point in my life, if you ask me what I have done, or if I am such a person, whether it is enough, I don’t think one day I will say that I am enough. But this comes from a place that always wants to improve and become better.
