The price of Warren Buffett-supports BYD Co Ltd‘S BYDDY BYDDF BEV hatchback gull starts at just 73,800 yuan, or about $10,660.

What happened: BYD unveiled a bright yellow Seagull at the Shanghai Auto Show and started pre-sales priced at 78,000 yuan, or $11,400. reported CarNewsChina.com. That’s less than half the price of most available electric vehicles, and the car has touched 10,000 orders in 24 hours since debut, the report added.

The company later revealed the final price of the car – lower than the pre-sale price – of just 73,800 yuan. A four-seater, five-door, Seagull is the smallest vehicle in BYD’s Ocean range.

The new EV is cheaper than a traditional internal combustion engine car like the 2023 Honda Fit 1.5L ICE, Remarks CleanTechnica. Honda Fit starts at 89,800 yuan ($12,500).

With a 30.8 kWh battery and a top speed of 130 km/h, the hatchback accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Also, it takes about 30 minutes to charge to 80%.
