Cannabis, Civil Rights and Climate: How a Conservative Lawmaker…

MP Nancy Mace, a staunch Conservative with a very conservative voting record, recently shed light on the painstaking efforts that go into drafting and pushing bipartisan legislation across the finish line.

In an exclusive conversation about cannabis Legalization Mace emphasized the importance of walking across the aisle and collaborating on a variety of issues, including civil rights, animal rights and energy.

“People don’t realize how hard some members of Congress work trying to get something across the finish line,” Mace said, emphasizing the difficulty of reaching consensus and the long hours that go into the job, to be effective.

In a recent example of bipartisan collaboration, Mace has teamed with Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna on a bill banning Russian oil and gas imports. This bill, presented in March 2022, not only aimed to cut off a revenue stream for Russia, but also included a study and a strategy for the United States to become more carbon neutral.

Mace explained: “We need to increase our domestic production of oil and gas, increase our imports from friends and not from Russia, not from Iran or Venezuela, which is allied with Russia, but we’ve also been like, ‘Hey, we’re going but at the same time, until we’ve all switched to cleaner energy, let’s figure out how to become more carbon neutral.'”
