No more cannabis testing, an employment protection law in Guam

A measure called “Responsible occupational health and safety law for cannabis users‘ was discussed at a public hearing in the Guam Congress.

Sponsored by Senator Will Parkinson, bill 6 would prevent any employer, landlord, college or government agency from testing themselves cannabis as a condition of employment, housing, education or government services, reported a local news medium.

If the measure is enacted, the Ministry of Administration will no longer be able to refuse employment to job applicants who test positive for cannabis use in a drug test. However, testing would only be permitted if required by federal law.

In Guam, a US territory, cannabis has been legal for adults since 2019. However, it remains banned under the Guam government’s Drug-Free Workplace Program.

Representative Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe), one of the sponsors of the bill, said, “It was always the intention of the cannabis legislature to reinvest in these programs, but now that we’re getting this incredible funding as new revenue into the state, we can finally do it.” good on this promise to New Mexicans in what we want to invest in.”
