One of the most anticipated launches in recent years is the Cybertruck Tesla Inc TSLA. Since the pickup is scheduled to be launched in mid-2023, Cathie Wood evaluates its potential against similar vehicles from competing car companies.
What happened: During its fourth-quarter financial report in January, Tesla said it was on track to begin production of the much-anticipated Cybertruck later in 2023 at the Gigafactory Texas.
First unveiled in 2019, Cybertruck saw strong demand and reservations, but its release has been delayed several times.
The Cybertruck was taking over 250,000 reservations a week after reservations opened. According to estimates by third parties, in November 2022 it was no less than 1.5 million reservations for Tesla’s electric pickup.
And although the Cybertruck was eagerly awaited, Invest Ark CEO Cathie Wood says it could be a “sleeper” in the auto industry.
“Tesla’s Cybertruck is the sleeper that could destroy the pricing structure of light-duty trucks, the lifeblood of most traditional auto companies in the US,” says Wood tweeted on Saturday.
The tweet was created in response to Ark Chief Futurist Brett Winton, who tweeted that Tesla’s margins in certain vehicle categories are better than those of traditional automakers.
“In autos, Tesla is delivering transformative margins in vehicle segments where traditional manufacturers struggle to tread water. Tesla could opt for similar margins on trucks, thereby forcing all of its established domestic competitors onto its cybertruck blade,” Winton tweeted.
