The announcement of the “10M Reward Plan” was made by Fu Xiaokanga vice president at Great Wall, during the company’s New Energy Conference.
Fu Xiaokang reportedly reported on an incident in which paid trolls allegedly claimed that a manufacturing defect caused a fire in an electric vehicle’s battery, even though the driver himself set the vehicle on fire.
“We welcome everyone to destroy rumors and restore the truth with us,” Fu Xiaokang said, as quoted by Bloomberg.
The reward will be paid if the tip is confirmed by the company and a law enforcement agency, the report added.
However, the troll battle plan allegedly went through when the company itself started being trolled over its strategy. Netizens mocked the company, saying it should invest the money in improving its cars instead, the report said.
