Former Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie said, that donald trump as the Republican nominee for the Presidential Election 2024 might be bad for the grand ole party.
What happened: Commenting on WABC 770 AM’s Cats Roundtable with John Catsimatidis on Sunday, Christie said: “A rematch between Trump and Biden is bad for the Republican Party, the New York Post reported.
“Donald Trump has been a loser since winning the 2016 election,” said Christie, who ran for the presidency in 2016 but lost the nomination to Trump.
“We lost the House of Representatives in 2018. The Senate and the White House in 2020. We underperformed in 2022, losing more governorships and one more Senate seat.”
He said, “Donald Trump can’t win.” Christie said Trump was on a “vanity exercise” to try to feel better about himself, according to the report.
Why it matters: Christie said he’s considering running for president because the “people who are in the running so far aren’t willing to hire him directly,” the Post reported.
The only way to beat the leader is to take the leader head on,” he added.
Trump is currently the front runner for the Republican nomination. Other Republicans running include the former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley and political commentator and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Governor of Florida Ron DeSantiswho is considered a potential contender against Trump has yet to announce his candidacy.
Formerly Christie chastised Trump because he’s “scared” to get on the stage of the presidential debate.
“He’s scared of going on stage against people who mean business. And I’m sorry to see he’s so scared of it.”
