It is well known that air pollution causes or exacerbates a variety of health problems in the cardiorespiratory system, but the effects of poor air quality go beyond the lungs and heart. In a new resource from Camfil, a global air filter development, research and manufacturing company, air quality experts explain new research on the link between ambient air quality and chronic kidney disease.
“In the United States, indoor levels of particulate matter are typically two to five times higher than outdoor levels of particulate matter, according to the EPA. As a result, indoor particulate matter exposure in some areas of the United States may be comparable to the exposure levels examined in the study,” said Mark Davidson, manager of marketing and technical materials at Camfil, “considering that most Americans spend 90% or more of their time sedentary spend indoors, indoor particulate matter pollution is a significant health problem.”
