CHALK RIVER, Ont., Oct. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, is pleased to announce that this year it will be celebrating Nuclear Science Week with multiple fun and educational activities and initiatives for the public. Nuclear Science Week, taking place October 17-21, is an international week-long celebration created to provide the public with greater awareness and insight into the contributions, innovations and opportunities created by nuclear science and technology .
As part of this year’s campaign, CNL will engage with local elementary and high school students through activities, site visits to the Chalk River Laboratories campus, and classroom presentations in partnership with North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN ) at schools in the area. CNL will also share a series of educational online presentations with the public, donate dozens of textbooks to local libraries, and host pop-up displays about nuclear power in public buildings in all local communities.
“There are so many ways nuclear science and technology have improved our lives here in Canada, from providing the carbon-free electricity that powers our way of life to producing life-saving medical isotopes to diagnose and treat cancer,” commented Joe McBrearty , President and CEO of CNL. “As Canada’s national nuclear laboratory, we have a responsibility to educate the public about the benefits of these technologies, how they work and why they are important to the way we live here in Canada.
