COVID-19 impact: Benicia may oppose Solano County and implement indoor masks for everyone

Benicia, California (KGO) – This week, the city of Benicia, located in Solano County, may violate county recommendations and implement indoor mask regulations.

This is something that all other Bay Area counties have done, but Solano County hasn’t, and this move will be rare because the city violated their county’s recommendations.

“I think the city council’s feeling is that although Solano County is unwilling to move in this direction, we have an obligation to work hard to further protect health and safety,” said Benicia Mayor Steve Young.

Young told us that due to the increasing number of COVID-19, the city council this week will consider implementing indoor mask regulations for everyone, including those who are vaccinated, and Solano County has not yet done so.

Virginia Barrazi, who walked through downtown Benicia on Sunday, said: “If we need to wear masks to lower interest rates and ensure the safety of all of us, then I think that’s what we need to do.”

Earlier this month, we talked to Solano County health officials and he explained why they chose not to implement indoor sheltering.

“The data does not support the need for such authorization. This disease in our county is very obviously spread during social events/through social events, parties, barbecues, picnics, and camping people,” Dr. Bella Matias Say.

Although many people here now support the requirement to wear masks indoors.

“I think it’s important to wear masks indoors, especially when people are not vaccinated, consider young children,” said Ankita Saxena, who was wearing a mask outside when we talked to her.

Lisa Bellini of the Angel Heart 4 You store in downtown Benicia said: “People don’t want to wear masks in the store. We didn’t have many problems.”

However, some people are totally opposed.

“If the authorization is effective, will you wear a mask?” We asked a man in Benicia, and he replied: “Damn no, damn no, it’s totally rubbish, the virus is here one minute, the next minute Right here,” said Rick Chase, who opposed wearing masks and vaccinations, and did not believe that COVID-19 is what it is.

Mayor Yang said that he knows that some people are opposed to the regulation of wearing masks indoors, but he thinks it is correct to do so at this time. He even said that he believes that Vallejo may soon consider the requirement to wear masks indoors.

“For many of us, when public health is affected, individual rights cease. I think this is where we are,” said Mayor Yang.

The Benicia City Council will discuss the possibility of compulsory indoor masks for everyone at its meeting at 6pm on Tuesday
