Dan BerkovitzGeneral Counsel of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, will resign effective January 31.
“After 34 years in public service, it’s time for me to pursue new and different challenges and opportunities,” Berkovitz said in one expression issued by the SEC.
Berkovitz left his position as commissioner at the CFTC and joined the SEC in November 2021.

Megan Barberothe SEC’s principal assistant attorney general and former Justice Department attorney, will replace Berkovitz.
Berkovitz previously criticized decentralized finance as “a Hobbesian marketplace” because of the lack of intermediaries to protect investors. He also reportedly had dinner with him disgraced crypto entrepreneur Sam Bankman Fried in his previous position at the CFTC.
Before Berkovitz joined the SEC, Bankman-Fried reportedly championed Berkovitz, according to to the Washington Examiner.
Bankman-Fried currently faces an eight-count indictment Maximum penalty is 115 years in prison.
