A majority of Americans don’t want that donald trump running for president again in 2024, according to a new poll, while another says he’s behind the president Joe Biden in a hypothetical competition.
What happened: A new poll by the PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll shows that 61% of Americans don’t want Trump to run for the presidency again.
According to the poll, 44 percent of Americans believe Trump did something illegal, while nearly half believe he should be charged with a crime. reported PBS.
The level of support for Trump has been largely unchanged since December 2020 – a month after he lost the last presidential election to Biden.
“The good thing for former President Trump is that his numbers are not going down. The bad thing is he’s only talking about a third of the voters standing in his corner,” he said Lee Miringoffthe director of the Marist Institute of Public Opinion, according to PBS.
Meanwhile, first a Yahoo News YouGov poll written down on The Hill, showed that if the 2024 election were held today, 48% of registered voters would vote for Biden, while 42% would vote for Trump.
Biden leads Trump by 6 points in this poll while he held a 3-point lead in the hypothetical 2020 rematch. Trump’s support was stable in both polls.
The poll was conducted between September 2 and September 6 with 1,634 US respondents and has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points, according to Hill.

Why it matters: Both polls show the base for Trump remains stable and largely unchanged.
The PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll found that views on Trump’s actions are largely based on partisan lines. Opposition to his candidacy is largely driven by Democrats.
