Big techs Excursion into the technology of autonomous driving and as an extension to the automotive industry does not go down well with the legislature.
What happened: Big Tech’s expansion into the auto industry raises serious concerns about emerging competition and consumer protection issues, Sen said. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said in a letter to the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
“Big Tech is establishing itself as a one-stop shop for automakers for everything from data collection, cloud storage and analytics to in-car navigation to voice assistants and autonomous driving capabilities,” Warren said.
Lawmakers see the expansion as having “potentially alarming” implications for developers, workers and consumers.

She also noted that big techs use “all-or-nothing” bundling tactics and quoted Owned by Alphabet Inc Google Google Google’s AAOS not included Google Maps or Google’s voice assistant.
Automakers are therefore forced to buy a package called “Google Automotive” to purchase all of these services, Warren added.
“In light of these concerns, it is important for the FTC, DOJ and the legislators in Congress to act quickly and decisively to encourage competition in this space,” Warren said in the letter to the FTC Chair Lina Khan and Assistant Attorney General of the DOJ Jonathan Kanter.
