Elon Musk weighed on the effects of different classes of psychotropic drugs on Friday.
That Tesla, Inc. TSLA The CEO was responding to a graphic shared by one of his Twitter followers showing the results of a study conducted by NASA into the effects of various psychoactive substances on spiders.
The study evaluated the web pattern spiders form when fed marijuana, LSD, speed and caffeine. The results of the study, published in 1995, showed that those given caffeine and LSD produced the most bizarre and incomplete patterns.
Musk intervened with his view that caffeine’s effects are the most worrying.

Caffeine is a natural compound found in beverages like coffee, tea, and energy drinks and belongs to a class of drugs called methylxanthine. It is considered a cognitive enhancer and increases alertness and attention span.
It all started with Musk’s Twitter poll comparing Benadryl spiders and DMT machine elves. He asked his followers who would win. Curiously, the tweet has since been deleted.
Benadryl, chemically diphenhydramine, is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies, hay fever, and the common cold. It is a type of psychotropic drug that induces drowsiness or sedation. DMT, chemically N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a recreational psychedelic drug.
With 11 hours remaining in the poll, the result was overwhelmingly in favor of the DMT machine elves.
Musk shared a screenshot of the initial responses and commented, “It was inevitable.”
Musk has previously voiced his fondness for Diet Coke, most notably the soda fountain version served in movie theaters along with “salt & butter popcorn.” He also said he doesn’t care even if it lowers life expectancy. A 12-ounce can of Diet Coke contains 42 mg of caffeine.
In 2018, Musk shocked everyone with it smoking weed on a live streamed podcast by Joe Rogan, although he later apologized for it.
