Tesla Inc. TSLA chairman Elon Musk was an enigma to many and not much is known about his managerial skills.

What happened: Musk comes as a demanding leader in an account shared by Jim Ambras, a former Vice President of Zip2, in a BBC documentary aired this week.

Zip2 was founded in 1995 by Musk and his brother Kimbal as the Global Link Information Network to provide online city guide software to newspapers. It was purchased by Compaq in 1999 for $307 million.

An anecdote from the past, Ambras said One time, when Musk was walking around the office at 9 p.m., not many people were sitting in their cubes.

“His face turned red and he was just really angry,” Ambras said, adding that he wasn’t too pleased that the entire company was out of the office at this hour.

Ambras noted that Musk worked seven days a week and crazy hours.

Brand spikesa systems engineer at Zip2, said in the documentary that “staying all night long” is the order of the day at Musk.

“We stayed in the office late into the night and then he finally fell asleep under his cube with his physics book on his pillow,” he said.

Spikes called the billionaire an “unusual guy” who knows pretty much everything.
