Twitter Inc new “official” gray tick Gone hours after it was first discovered, but wait — there’s more to this story.
What happened: After YouTuber Brands Brownlee found that the “official” badge had disappeared, Tesla Inc TSLA CEO and now head of Twitter, Elon Musk, replied, “I just killed it.”

Justifying the move, Musk reiterated that the original blue tick would democratize the service, calling it a “great leveller.” reported Engadget.
However, Musk’s statement about “killing” the “official” brand isn’t a complete twist. Twitter VP Esther Crawford, who also leads the Twitter Blue initiative, clarified that the “official” badge will initially only be given to “government and commercial entities”. Individuals are not initially the focus.
Why it matters: Shortly after the gray ticks disappeared, Musk said that the microblogging site “will do a lot of stupid things in the coming months” and that they will only keep things that work. Crawford also said there are no more “sacred cows” – “many will fail, some will succeed”.
It’s uncertain who will get which ticks, or what the verification process will be to get the “official” label. For now, the only safe assumption is that Twitter’s original tick is accompanied only by a Blue subscription for $8 per monthstated the report.
