Elon Musk on Tesla’s zero profit, Rivian demands a partial tax refund

EV stocks declined in tandem with the broader market for the week ended April 21. Tesla, Inc. TSLA got the ball rolling with mixed quarterly results.

Here are the main events that took place in the EV space during the week:

Tesla’s Q1, price adjustments and more: Tesla reported first-quarter sales that grew at the slowest pace since the second quarter of 2020, when sales were down year-over-year. Earnings per share fell 20.6% but were still in line with estimates. The decline was driven by concerns about Tesla’s gross profit margin falling below 20%. CEO Elon Muskhowever, said on a conference call that Tesla could sell its cars at no profit in the short term and make up for it with its full self-driving software in the long term.

The EV giant made two contrasting price moves this week. While the company reduced prices on the Model Y and Model 3, the company increased the prices on its Model S and Model X vehicles.

Cathie Woods Ark Invest announced a new price target for Tesla shares. the the company expected to rise to $2,000 by 2027 with much of this jump attributed to the introduction of robotic taxis.

Rivian electric vehicles receive a partial electric vehicle tax credit: Rivian Automotive, Inc RIVN 2023 R1T and R1S vehicles originally removed from the Internal Revenue Service’s list of vehicles eligible for a tax credit based on updated guidelines, receives a credit of $3,750. The reversal came after the company submitted revised documentation on its battery criterion.
