For global citizens, home is wherever they wake up in the world

Owning a private yacht and leading a global lifestyle has long been the ultimate goal of many adventure-hungry financial and location independent professionals around the world. While superyachts have traditionally been seen as the ultimate vacation home, private residential boats are now vying for supremacy. Enjoying a luxurious global lifestyle is easier than ever without the hassle of crew and yacht maintenance.

So, what makes life on a boat so appealing? After speaking with Katie Drew-Jensen, Global Marketing Director of Storylines, a private residence at sea, it seems a lot.

“Living in a community of global citizens means traveling the world with like-minded friends. Having a luxury vacation home on board is the easiest way to see the entire planet. Wake up to a new view every week. Open Pack it once and you can find a home anywhere in the world,” she said.

Storylines offers residential floor plans and amenities to accommodate remote-working executives and entrepreneurs, many of whom have families. Extensive commercial facilities and World School youth education programs are on board.

“We’re seeing an acceleration in sales as people reassess what they really want from work and family life. They don’t want to put their dreams on hold anymore. We’re giving them something extraordinary to make them real A global citizen while maintaining all the comforts of home,” Drew-Jensen continued.

While some may still prefer the privacy of a superyacht, private residential boats have a wider range of facilities such as golf simulators, racket sports, swimming pools, spas, fitness decks, medical clinics and more; but according to Storylines, the main One of the differences is the built-in travel companion community.

Having a sense of community has been well proven to be critical to well-being, and even more so when you’re constantly on the move. After exploring remote coral reefs in the Maldives or safari in South Africa, it’s easy to see the appeal of having a home and community. Base Camp removes the unease that global travel can bring. Another major attraction is the ease of travel. From itinerary, navigation, meals, entertainment, housekeeping, visas, maintenance – everything is taken care of. The toughest decision a resident on a private boat has to make on any given day is deciding whether to enjoy a relaxing time at the spa onboard or go ashore to learn about the local culture.

On the topic of happiness, Storylines is very focused on health, wellness and an active lifestyle. Extensive facilities include a plunge pool, fitness facility, steam room, sauna and alfresco fitness deck with running track, kimchi court and yoga classes. The ship is designed to allow communities to truly live their best lives in optimal health while enjoying stunning views across the world.

“Storylines Lifestyle is designed to enable global travelers to live healthier, happier and longer lives. As people achieve their life dreams, they are surrounded by great food, an active lifestyle and a close-knit community… These are all key ingredients for a successful life,” Drew-Jensen said.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Storylines, however, is the company’s work with resident owners on the destinations the ship visits and the actual design of the ship’s homes and facilities to provide floor plans and deck plans. For example, an outdoor cinema was added after a request from a resident owner who wanted to be able to watch a movie on the deck under the stars. Likewise, Storylines surveyed the places their residents would most like to visit and created itineraries based on feedback from exotic destinations around the globe.

Storylines also has an ambitious commitment to sustainable travel. Extensive sustainability initiatives include growing their own products, using liquefied natural gas to power ships, banning single-use plastics, utilizing technologies that turn waste into electricity, donating to ocean conservation and giving back to the local communities they visit.

“We found that many of the people who are drawn to this lifestyle are philanthropists by nature. They care about the beauty of the planet and they understand the importance of conservation in keeping playgrounds pristine. They are also passionate about the vulnerable we encounter along the way The community provides support, contribution and volunteerism,” said BC Hunter, Storylines’ sustainability ambassador.

One thing on their side is time, leisurely travel. The ship’s circumnavigation of the globe will take three years, one to five days per port and several months per geographic area. These global citizens can spend time immersing themselves in local cultures and meet new people from all over the world. Many plan extensive overland travel by road and train between ports to catch ships at future destinations on the itinerary.
