Global bioenergies agrees to work with Shell to develop low-carbon road fuels
All, 14 November 2022 – After delivering test samples this summer, Global bioenergies and Shell agree to collaborate on the development and testing of low-carbon road fuels.
The first phase of this agreement will evaluate new concepts based on high-octane gasoline components derived from bio-based feedstocks. As part of the collaboration, the two companies are conducting a joint research study to identify and develop manufacturing processes to produce the molecules required to produce high-octane components. The agreement also includes a period of exclusivity to further develop these innovative concepts in the future.
Marc Delcourt, CEO of Global Bioenergies, commented: “We look forward to collaborating with Shell on this important study. As EV adoption continues to accelerate, it is clear that internal combustion engines will have a role to play for many years to come. We expect the future of road transport will be based on an energy mix that maximizes the role of decarbonized sources, where biofuels will play a crucial role.”
Selda Gunsel, VP Fuels and Lubricants Technology, said: “We recognize that decarbonising the mobility sector will require a range of solutions and we are committed to exploring different avenues to achieve this. We are already evaluating the possibility of taking quantities of isobutene and derivatives from Global Bioenergies’ existing and future facilities. It’s collaborations like this that help accelerate progress in this area.”
