H2 Green Steel works with Anglo American to produce low carbon steel

STOCKHOLM, April 4, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — H2 Green Steel and the world’s leading mining company Anglo-American have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on value chains for low-carbon steelmaking.

The companies will investigate and test the use of high quality iron ore products Anglo-American Kumba mint in South Africa and Minas Rio in Brazilas feedstock for H2 Green Steel’s Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) production process at its Boden facility in the north Sweden. The ability to use lump iron could complement the iron pellets needed for DRI, thus increasing flexibility in H2 Green Steel’s production process.

Anglo-American has set a target of reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 50 percent by 2040 in 2021.
