Thieves compromised BitKeep cryptocurrency wallets after creating an “unofficial” Android app, resulting in the theft of funds from user wallets.

About $8 million worth of assets were stolen, according to PeckShield, a provider of blockchain security services.

The theft appears to have been done by downloading hacked and maliciously coded unofficial APK packages.

BitKeep has advised users to transfer their funds to the official Chrome plugin wallet or app downloaded from the official store, create a new wallet address, and keep their mnemonic phrase safe.

The enterprise specified that the theft was mainly due to the hijacking of the APK 7.2.9 and warned users to be careful when using unofficial versions.

Multi-chain data provider OKLink has announced that it has invested a total of $31 million in various assets across the Binance Smart Chain, ether ETH/USD, Tron TRX/USDand polygon MATIC/USD were taken in the ongoing attack.
