The US Public Perspective donald trump remains unchanged despite mounting legal troubles for the former president, according to a recent poll conducted by the New York Times University of Siena.

What happened: The poll took place earlier this month after the US Ministry of Justice began its investigation into Trump’s handling of confidential papers in Mar-a-Lago, but prior to the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against Trump and his family, reported The New York Times.

Voters maintained the same views from the poll conducted earlier this summer, with 44% voting positive for Trump and 53% voting negative. 23% had a very positive opinion of the former US leader.

When asked if the 2024 election would be held today, who would they vote for if Trump were running against the President Joe Biden42% would vote for Trump and 45% for Biden.

Fifty-one percent believe Trump committed serious federal crimes, while 38 percent say he did not.

Why it matters: Trump’s policies have retained public favor, according to the September poll, in which half of those polled support a wall along the US-Mexico border, the Times noted.

The poll, conducted between September 6 and September 14 among 1,399 registered voters, found that 30 percent of respondents had conflicting views about Trump and his actions.

A recent PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll found that a majority would not want Trump to run for president again in 2024, but also found that his level of Support remains unchanged from Dec 2020.

Meanwhile, Trump also shared a poll on his Truth Social account showing it was him before Biden in three states.

Truth Social is owned by Trump media and technology group and is to go public through a merger Digital World Acquisition Corp. DWAC.
