PASCAGOULA, Miss., Jan. 06, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HIIs HI I The Ingalls Shipbuilding division was today awarded a $10.5 million contract to plan the modernization period of Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyer, USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) and USS Michael Monsur (DDG 1001).

HII has invested nearly $1 billion in infrastructure, facilities and tooling at Ingalls Shipbuilding to enable the work of Ingalls shipbuilders to improve product flow and process efficiencies and improve product quality.
Zumwalt-class destroyers feature a state-of-the-art electric propulsion system, a wave-piercing tumblehome hull, stealth design and are equipped with the most advanced warfare technology and weapons. These ships will be capable of performing a range of deterrence, force projection, maritime control, and command and control missions while allowing the Navy to evolve with new systems and missions.
Ingalls delivered 34 Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyers, five of which are currently under construction, including Jack H Lucas (DDG 125), Ted Stevens (RL 128), Jeremiah Denton (DDG 129), George M Neal (DDG 131) and Sam Nunn (RL 133). In addition, the third of the Zumwalt class Ships, Lyndon B Johnson (DDG 1002) arrived in Pascagoula, Mississippi in January 2022 to ensure the availability of a combat system.
