What happened: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has taken a clear and consistent position on the situation in Ukraine, which has been expressed since the beginning of the conflict,” said the Ambassador of the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Amir Said Iravani said reported CNBC.
“Iran has consistently worked for peace and an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine,” Iravani said, calling the allegations “baseless and unfounded.”
Iravani added that the West is conducting a disinformation campaign against Iran.
Comments from the Iranian representative came after a behind-closed-door UN Security Council meeting at which the US, Britain and France raised the implications of Iran-made arms transfers to Russia.
Meanwhile, according to the United States and allied security officials, Iran is planning to send not only drones, but also the first Iran-made surface-to-surface missiles to Putin.
American President Joe Biden, on Wednesday accused the Russian president of resorting to Ukrainian brutality during his war in Kyiv.
“I think Vladimir Putin is in an incredibly difficult position and what it reflects to me is that it seems his only tool at his disposal is to brutalize individual citizens in Ukraine to intimidate them into surrendering,” Biden told reporters at the White House .
