• Think long term: Most companies are focused on the short to medium term (the next few years). Instead, Amazon focused on 10 years later. Through that lens, Bezos was able to see an opportunity that many other companies around him couldn’t see because they were too focused on their companies’ short-term success.
• Embracing Failure: Many people think that successful people are always just that: successful. But most people in Bezos’ position can talk about their mistakes before they’ve finally made it. When someone tries to avoid a potential mistake, they may be handcuffed instead of moving freely forward, knowing that if they fail at something they can always bounce back.
• Be extreme: If Bezos was content with Amazon being just a bookstore, we wouldn’t be talking about him today. But he had a vision for the company that he was able to achieve by always pushing the envelope and taking things to the next level.
