Kevin McCarthy slams Xi Jinping after meeting with Taiwan President

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy underscored the unity of Congress in supporting Taiwan against it Xi Jinping as Democratic and Republican legislators met the Taiwanese President Tsai Ing Wen On Wednesday.

What happened: After meeting the Taiwanese President in Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Los Angeles, McCarthy said: “I felt that our meeting today was made available more peace and stability for the world. America’s support for the people of Taiwan will remain resolute, unwavering and non-partisan.”

Although McCarthy said he didn’t have any plans to travel to Taiwan, he added, not being intimidated by the trip. “That doesn’t mean I won’t go,” he said, adding, “I’m the speaker of the House of Representatives. There is no place China will tell me where to go or who to talk to, whether you are an enemy or whether you are a friend.”

Speaking alongside the US lawmaker, Tsai said: “To keep the peace, we must be strong” and “we are stronger when we are together”.

“Today’s ones Meeting between President Tsai of Taiwan and Speaker McCarthy is to be commended for its leadership, its cross-party involvement and its prestigious and historic venue,” the former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said in a rare praise for McCarthy.
